green flash projects is a press dedicated to queer artistry and reciprocity within natural settings. Our mission is to create art experiences that explore the intersections of environment, community, and culture. Through installations, events, and publications, we deepen connections with the natural world, inspire environmental justice, and engage diverse communities in dialogue. By blurring the boundaries between art and life, green flash projects promotes sustainability while raising awareness of ecological and social issues.

What sets green flash projects apart is our focus on queer artistry and environmental advocacy within natural landscapes. We center marginalized narratives, challenging colonial and Western perspectives on art, nature, and identity. Our projects emphasize reciprocity—how people connect with the environment and with each other—using art as a platform for dialogue on social and ecological issues. We invite participants to view nature as an active collaborator in cultural exchanges.

green flash projects redefines art as participatory, site-specific, and ephemeral, elevating queer creative expressions often excluded from mainstream narratives. We challenge extractive views and promote interconnected, sustainable practices by embracing nature as an active collaborator in artistic and cultural exchanges.

A key example is They Call Me The Mayor at Riis Beach: Ralph’s Beach Parties 1994–2000 by Ralph Hopkins and Gili Rappaport (Anthology Editions with green flash projects, 2024). This book documents Ralph’s iconic fashion show beach parties at NYC’s oldest gay beach, spotlighting environmental and political changes threatening its future. While co-designing the book with Ralph, we also began reviving his annual beach parties on the same site at Riis. At Ralph’s Red Hot at Riis in 2024, gfp will launch the book while raising awareness and funds for beach erosion and regenerative land projects there. Through art, we aim to foster engagement with both nature and community.

At gfp, we operate as a small, collaborative press with a core team and additional project-based participants. Our flexible, part-time structure focuses on partnerships and community involvement to support queer artistry and environmental advocacy.

Currently, gfp is led by founder and artistic director Gili Rappaport, who oversees the vision, curation, and creative direction of the press. They guide the editorial process, work closely with artists, and manage projects from concept to publication.

We collaborate with freelance editors, designers, and printers on a project-by-project basis.
